Updated 6 min readAuto Agadir

Agadir to Essaouira is one of the most beautiful drives in Morocco: about 175 km of Atlantic coast, banana farms, argan forests and surf villages. Plan a full day to enjoy it.
Route and timing
Take the coastal road north through Taghazout and Tamri, then continue through argan country to Essaouira. Without stops it takes roughly 2.5 to 3 hours.
Best stops on the way
- Taghazout and Anchor Point (about 20 minutes from Agadir): surf and cafés
- Tamri: banana plantations and cliff views
- Cap Ghir: dramatic lighthouse and cliffs
- Imsouane: Morocco's longest wave, a short detour from the main road
- Argan trees with goats between Tamanar and Essaouira: stop safely and tip the owner if you photograph them
In Essaouira
The medina is walled and closed to cars. Park outside, near the port or at the guarded car park by Bab Doukkala, and walk in. Allow three to four hours for the ramparts, port and souks.
Tips
- Leave Agadir by 8:30 for a relaxed day
- The coastal road is windy: fuel up beforehand
- Pack a light jacket, the Atlantic wind is cool even in summer
- A Clio 5 is perfect; surfers can add roof racks
