Do You Need an International Driving Permit in Morocco?

Short answer: if your national driving licence is printed in the Latin alphabet (UK, EU, US, Canada, Australia and many more), you can normally drive in Morocco as a visitor and rent a car with it. An International Driving Permit (IDP) is still a cheap safety net, and it is clearly recommended if your licence is in another script.
When your own licence is enough
Rental agencies mainly care that your licence is valid, readable and has been held for at least one or two years. Police at checkpoints generally accept licences in French or English, or in a Latin script.
- Valid, undamaged, physical licence (photos on a phone are not accepted)
- Held for at least 1 to 2 years
- Driver aged 21 or over for most agencies
When you should get an IDP
- Your licence is in Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic or another non-Latin script
- Your licence has no photo or is a paper-style document that is hard to read
- You plan a long trip and want an extra translated document for police checks
- Your insurer asks for it
An IDP is a translation of your licence. It does not replace it, so you always have to carry both.
What else to carry when you drive
- Passport (or a copy) and your entry stamp
- Rental contract and insurance certificate
- The car's registration document (carte grise)
- A booking confirmation if you are picked up at the airport
Auto Agadir asks for a valid licence, a passport or national ID, and a minimum age of 21. Details are in the rental terms.
Practical tip before you travel
Rules and recognition can change, so check the official guidance from your own government's foreign travel advice before you leave and confirm requirements with your rental agency. A WhatsApp message to the agency usually settles it within minutes: reserve here.
